Recently rebuilt and revamped our brand new family farm is the ideal place to visit with the whole family. Being both educational and fun at the same time there’s hours of enjoyment to be had here!
Historical records confirm that there has been a ‘menagerie’ at Wentworth since 1738. Surviving lists show that by the middle of the 19th century animals and birds kept there represented all the continents with the exception of Antarctica. Notable mammals listed included antelope, a tapir, buffalo, kangaroo, ring-tailed lemurs and astonishingly an American bear. The list of birds is equally impressive including an eagle owl, peregrine falcon, grey parrots, vultures and even an emu!
Although perhaps not quite as exotic today, our collection includes llamas, alpacas, pigs, ponies, sheep, goats, foxes, meerkats, peacocks, various aviary birds…the list goes on and on! Look out for an even greater and constantly changing range of domestic, and farm animals plus British wildlife and some exotics as the farm develops.
Our friendly and enthusiastic team of Luke, Clare, Alex, Emma, Vicki & Beth are always on hand with a wealth of experience of both zoo and domestic animals behind them. In addition various interactive workshops, talks and handling sessions are planned for both children and adults alike. Additionally our team can accomodate both school visits and children’s parties where little ones will gain ‘hand’s on’ experience with a variety of small reptiles, insects and mammals whilst learning about husbandry, habitat and conservation in an informal and entertaining fashion.
Whilst you’re here make sure to visit our adventure playground aimed at children of all ages, alternatively why not browse our gift and toy selection in the gift shop?
So if your children like to meet animals, discover new things, and learn and play all day, they’re sure to love their visit here.
